Empathy- The Human Quality That We Need More

Empathy is besides having awareness of the feelings and emotions of other people, taking action to provide a favorable solution. One of the key elements of emotional intelligence is a link between self and others. It is through empathy that individuals understand what others are experiencing as one’s feelings.

I believe that the most crucial human attribute that our society needs is empathy. Additionally, research demonstrates that higher empathy leads to increased emotional support for one another, making empathy one of the most priceless humantraits one can possess.

It helps us to show compassion to others, to connect to our family, loved ones, colleagues, and even strangers, without which the world would be dim and silent. It liberates both the individuals, the one in need and the one offering support, thereby creating a positive impact on one’s emotional being.

Empathy has much more to offer than sympathy. Where sympathy is ‘feeling for’ someone, empathy is ‘feeling with’ that person. We can empathize with someone only if we show sensitivity and understand other’s perspectives as our own. It is a skill that can be developed through sharing and listening in a non-judgemental and supportive environment. According to the happiness index rankings, Denmark is one of the happiest nations. In this nation, empathy is a skill that is compulsorily taught to pupils from 6 to 16 years old in a weekly, one-hour lesson called Klassens tid. Students are invited to discuss their issues, and the teacher and the rest of the class work together to come up with potential solutions without being judgemental or laughing out. As the students listen to others and understand their situations before suggesting probable solutions, develop the skill of empathy in the process.

Empathetic individuals are better able to connect with others, appreciate them better, and aid them in reaching their full potential. People who have empathy tend to be logical thinkers. Such people think about how to maintain their safety and the health of others. Genuine empathy is truly a beautiful skill to possess.
